RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- A task force overseeing an influx of nearly
3,000 military and support personnel at Fort Bragg is meeting to
discuss the impact on an 11-county region.
Task force spokesman John Bellamy said about 500 of the
newcomers already have been transferred to the base through the
U.S. military's Base Realignment and Closure program.
Bellamy said as many as 30,000 new residents are expected in the
area as family members and private contractors follow military
personnel from Fort McPherson, Ga., and other locations.
The task force is coordinating growth planning by calculating
needed improvements in transportation, housing, workforce training
and other areas.
