WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) -- Former state Sen. R.C. Soles has been a tough man to get a hold of recently, but today we spotted him at Gov. Perdue's event in Whiteville.

Soles has avoided our cameras as the controversy around him continues.

Tabor City Police say this past weekend the former senator got into a couple of fights with Allen "Frog" Strickland. Police say Strickland hit Soles in the back, leaving a mark. They say Soles had bitten Strickland on the arm Saturday night.

Both men refused to swear out warrants for the others' arrest.

Today we tried to find out more about what has been going on with the former senator, but he again avoided our cameras.

"Do what?" Soles responded. When we asked again what happened this past with Strickland, he said, "Go speak with the governor. She's here on other business."

We then asked Soles when all of this would end and if he fears for his life. He refused to answer.

One of the senator's colleagues told us not to ask Soles any more questions, adding that it was not our reporter's job to do so.

This news station sent its reporters to cover an event with Mrs. Perdue. They focused on Mr. Soles and his personal life. No mention of what happened at the event or even what it was for. How sad....
Where are the station managers? Did every one go to the same school of sensationalism?

Ms. Jones - that is absolutely not true. Did you watch our newscasts yesterday? We led our 500p newscast with the governor's visit to talk jobs. We also had the story again at 600p and 1100p.

In fact, we even reported the story that the governor had been threatened recently and that her staff was on alert this week because of it.

Station managers are here - and are aware of what is going on the air.

Just ignore these self proclaimed profits of doom. That's not a typo error. I see these people defending RC as people seeking either as profit seekers or fame seekers hoping to gain a few seconds in the spot light. When and if the walls tumble down will they come forward to defend the king or cower in fear hoping to escape the blade of justice. I'll lay my neck on the line for justice will they. I think not. So much has been taken from me by him But how much has been given to them.

Obviously RC showed up to gain support from anyone to bail him out of trouble. He got caught and ran like a rabbit again. Keep it up Scott don't give him a break not even to breath.

Scott.

I see no mention of what the event was about in this news story. If WWAY did a story in the past, beit a day ago or a month ago, it has no bearing on this. Michelle is right. As this story reads on WWAYonline, your reporter went to cover one thing and lost focus. came away with nothing. As I read this, and I get all my new from the web, I would think that all WWAY cares about is gossip. just my opinion. No need to reply as my opinion will not change just as your reporting will not change.

As Scott said there lead story (Gov Perdue's story) was first and foremeost on their televised news that particular day. This was simply a side story that developed fromt he main event. Why is that so difficult to understand?? As you mention, you get all your news from the web-since the web does not have a time schedule as televised news does-that means you can log onto any news website you choose. If you don't like the manner which WWAY covers news on their website-don't visit it. Simple solution when just a bit of common sense is used.

but his presence was of no significance. The Governor was present & I believe the agenda included jobs and the budget.

Did you hit Bev with any tough questions?

Mr. Soles, you are an embarrassment to the people of Tabor City and Columbus County. You are a black mark on our state's political and legislative history. On behalf of the people you once represented, please keep your personal business personal. I’m certain that what happens at “Branchwater” would raise eyes even in “The Court of Caligula,” however, what happens there should stay there.

Thank You,
I'm happy to hear that some individuals feel the same way!

It's Sick!

That's a new one. Since when is it not a reporter's job to ask questions?

Former Senator Soles has so many "colleagues", could you be more specific? In your televised report, one of his most noteworthy "colleagues" was prominent. Could this have been the colleague?

WWAY, don't you think it was inappropriate to stick a camera in a man's face and ask him personal questions in this type of environment. This just shows how immature your reporters are, all of them. He has no obligation to answer anything to you. Remember that-NO OBLIGATION. He owes you absolutely nothing. I would have laughed if he would have slapped the camera out of his face and it hit the floor. Maybe he should have cracked YOU in the head with an umbrealla. Why don't you explain on your RANT why he has to answer anything to you?
Why didn't you stick the camera in our sorry governor's face and ask her about our budget, free plane rides, wasteful spending etc? Ask her why our congressman get all these special benefits that others don't get? WWAY is a pitiful excuse for journalism. You are tabloid news.

Soles is a public figure. He was approached by a news crew. That is totally within their right.

Yet you somehow think that he has a right to destroy their camera or assault them with an umbrella?

I almost wish he HAD hit someone with an umbrella. Not being one of his boy-toys, they would likely have pressed charges.

Inappropriate, I agee with you on one point and one only. The reporter should have asked Gov. Perdue the questons you mentioned. Where we disagree is bout former senator RC Soles, Jr. Why won't he prosecute these guys when they assault him? I mean, why wouldn't he if he had nothing to hide? I know why the boys won't prosecute Mr. Soles. It's because some court officials are so crooked. Why do you think a former parter of Mr. Soles is now a lawyer or why her husband has a job at the court house that should be cut before shool teachers are hired. Gov. Perdue is a close friend of Mr. Soles and I can't believe he threw her under the bus so he could get the reporter off his back.

The reporter and Channel 3 are only doing their job. When Soles and Strickland make fools of theselves by going to the police department to air their dirty laundry, they should be questioned and they should have been jailed for violence since both didn't deny the allegations of assault. You need to quit defending Mr. Soles because he has created situations that he wants to look squeaky clean in but can. He is a sick minded person who needs to be put behind bars.
