WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Historic homes come in many different styles and all sizes. You can find them all over our town, and see several on this weekend's Historic Home Tour. Each home has its own story and its own personality. The Thomas C. Miller House is no exception.

It is not the biggest house on the tour but the Thomas C. Miller House at 309 North 6th Street is historic and has a story to tell.

"The house was built in 1898 by the first black deputy in New Hanover County, and it stayed in the family until about 1947, which was great," owner Linda Heath said. "His son had inherited it, and then it was a rental for many years and then I bought it in 2006."

Being more than 100 years old, you get a very unique house. In fact this house was crafted down to the smallest detail.

"It definitely is a handmade house," Heath said. "Every detail for every door frame, all the windows, the millwork underneath each window was all hand crafted. Even the nails were all handcrafted. It's amazing. It's an original nothing else is like it."

The house blends nicely into this neighborhood of older and contemporary homes. It just goes to show that you don't need something big, just something that fits.

"It's very small," Heath said. "It's just a two bedroom, one bath, but it's very cozy and very comfortable, and it has a nice warmth to it."

Take time on the tour to relax with a visit to the Thomas C. Miller House at 309 N. 6th Street.

The Home Tour runs Saturday 1-6 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person. For more information visit http://www.historicwilmington.org/.
