Flower girl dies, 2 bridesmaids injured in crash


GREENVILLE, NC (AP) -- A flower girl has been killed and two
bridesmaids injured when their car was hit head-on by another
vehicle as they traveled to a wedding in Greenville.

Six-year-old Ava Kendall was killed Saturday when the other
vehicle crossed the center line and struck the car driven by
22-year-old Michele Garland. A second passenger in Garland's car
was 13-year-old bridesmaid Lindsey Whitehurst.

Bride-to-be Rachel Jones called off the wedding. Jones says Ava
Kendall was a family friend.

Both bridesmaids were taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital
with serious injuries. Their conditions were not available early

The driver of the other vehicle, 39-year-old Mupin Wu Cummings
of Pinetops, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The investigation is continuing.
