Grand jury returns presentment in Chadbourn town manager investigation

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A Columbus County Grand jury has asked for another step in the investigation of Chadbourn's town manager.

Stevie Cox is charged with impersonating an officer after allegedly telling a state trooper he was the town's police chief during a traffic stop.

A grand jury returned a presentment after hearing evidence in the case. District Attorney Jon David says it means the grand jury wants charges filed. Prosecutors would have to take it to another grand jury next month to get an indictment.

David says this process, which he says allows more public input, is the best way to deal with an investigation into a public official.
