DWI charge for driver accused of hitting deputy

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Investigators say a drunk driver hit a deputy's car earlier this week in Brunswick County. William Earl Williamson, 58, is charged with DWI and assault with a deadly weapon on a governmental official among other charges.

Investigators say Wednesday night Williamson hit the driver's side of Dep. Jeremy Borowski's cruiser as the deputy blocked US 74 near Leland trying to stop Williamson, who was speeding on the wrong side of the road.

Borowski was taken to the hospital, but was not seriously hurt.

Williamson is in jail under $80,000 secured bond.
