Former Charlotte counselor sentenced for assault

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) -- A former counselor at a Charlotte school
has been sentenced to more than 13 years in prison after he pleaded
guilty to sexually assaulting a boy he was baby-sitting.

Officials say 29-year-old Tristan Russell had been an instructor
at Providence Day's afterschool and summer programs for two years.

Russell was arrested in August. Prosecutors say the assaults
occurred between 2009 and 2010 and did not happen at the school.

Prosecutor Leslie Cooley says Russell pleaded guilty Monday to
three counts of statutory sex offense.

Russell must register as a sex offender after he is released and
must be electronically monitored for the rest of his life.

School officials say they contacted parents but no other
complaints have been made.
