Topsail recall bill passes Senate

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) -- The North Carolina Senate has given final approval to
a bill that would let voters in Topsail Beach recall town leaders.

The Senate approved the bill on its second and third readings today. The House passed it overwhelmingly.

The push for the bill, sponsored by Rep. Carolyn Justice, started more than a year ago after complaints from Topsail Beach residents about how town leaders handled beach renourishment.

At least 30 percent of the town's registered voters must first sign a petition to start a recall.
