The son of North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue has taken to Facebook to accuse a fundraiser for likely Republican candidate Pat McCrory of adultery.
"Chronic adulterer and town crier to host McCrory fundraiser in New Bern . . . you know who you are . . . HILARIOUS," wrote 34-year-old Garrett Perdue on his Facebook page a week ahead of the May 11 McCrory fundraiser.
The McCrory event took place at the residence of Buddy Stallings, according to an invitation obtained by POLITICO, but two other couples are listed as "hosts."
Perdue's son has been the subject of scrutiny for his lobbying work tied to state economic development projects. Ironically, last year, the governor's son helped facilitate a call between Facebook and the governor about relocating a new facility in the state.
A late April Public Policy Polling survey found Perdue's job approval rating at just 35 percent. She trailed McCrory in a hypothetical match-up by 11 points.
A spokesman for Perdue did not immediately respond to a request for comment about her son's comment.
Update: Garrett Perdue quickly issued an apology Wednesday, also on his Facebook page.
