WWAY night highlights promotional schedule for Wilmington Sharks

WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) -– The Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League (CPL) have announced their marketing plans for the 2011 season. The Sharks home opener will take place on Tuesday, May 31st against the Fayetteville SwampDogs. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 pm with the gates opening at 6:00 pm.

All home games will feature different corporate sponsors that will provide specials on admission, beverages and concessions.

Weekly promotional themes are as follows:

Tuesday: Time Warner Cable/Z107.5 FM “Two fer’ Tuesday” with 2-for-1 admission, hotdogs, and beverages as well as Fat Tire Fat Tuesday

Wednesday: Miller-Motte/Sunny 104.5 Kid’s Eat Free with the purchase of a ticket

Thursday: Fat Tony’s “Thirsty Thursday” and “Shirt Off Our Back”

Friday: Kids Run the Bases, Giveaways and Special Events

Saturday: Fitness Tree Service Green Saturday’s/Kid’s Run the Bases

Opening week’s promotional activities have also been set. Leading off on Tuesday, May 31st will be ASG Security Magnet Schedule Giveaway. Thursday, June 2nd will be the first of eight Fat Tony’s Thirsty Thursday's with WWAY Shirt Off Our Back Night. Thursday's WWAY night will also be a doubleheader vs. Morehead City Marlins with game one to begin at 6:05 pm and the gates opening at 5:00 pm. In other words you'll need to get there earlier than normal for WWAY Night. It's the only time all season with a 6:05 first pitch. All other games will start at 7. Friday the 3rd, fans will be entertained by a post-game fireworks show, presented by Taco Bell.

In all, the Sharks will have three post-game firework shows, all thanks to Taco Bell. The Sharks will celebrate the 4th of July one day early with their second post-game fireworks show of the season on July 3rd following the game vs. Florence. The final show will take place following the Sharks last Saturday night home game of the regular season on July 30th.

Once again, Thirsty Thursday’s will be back at Buck Hardee Field, thanks to Fat Tony’s. Fans can enjoy $1.00 beverages throughout the entire game. Thursdays will also mark our Shirt Off Our Back promotion, where fans will have opportunities to win game worn shirts right off the back of their favorite player.

This season the Sharks will host a Kid’s Day at Buck Hardee Field; Wednesday, June 29th will be “The Big Splash” where the Sharks will have inflatable water slides and slip-n-slides for the kid’s amusement. The game will begin at 11:05AM.

McDonald’s Field of Dreams parties are back again this season. Sign up your youth league team to take the field with the Sharks for the singing of the National Anthem and enjoy the game from the McDonald’s Field of Dreams Deck down the third base line.

Scott Koger joins the line-up this year at the ballpark as the official caterer of picnics. Picnic packages start as low as $12.00 per person. McDonald’s and Island Cakery Birthday Party packages are also available, with cupcakes provided by Island Cakery and kid’s meal provide by McDonald’s.

Some lucky fans will have the opportunity to win a free airline tickets thanks to Allegiant Air. Allegiant Air “Pack Your Bags Night,” will take place on Tuesday, July 12th as the Sharks take on their rivals from the west, the Fayetteville SwampDogs.

The Wilmington Sharks are members of Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 15th season, The Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer.
