BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Politics in Brunswick County are about as hot as the weather this week.

The GOP there is reeling after learning that Republican Judge Ola Lewis is behind a squabble with Republican District Attorney Jon David over traffic court.

With yesterday's ruling not to override Judge Jerry Jolly's decision ending traffic court coming from the NC Court of Appeals came the release of information that David included in his appeal.

In the paperwork came the indication that Jolly was not the only judge involved in the ruling. So was Lewis.

With both judges allegedly conspiring against David comes the political fallout of the situation.

"We have two people that are Republicans. We would just as soon be dealing with the enemy rather than people within the own party," Brunswick County Republican Party Chair George Bell said.

Brunswick County GOP officials seem frustrated by the situation surrounding Judge Lewis, but didn't want to take a stance until they had met to review the information.

"Under any circumstances if any of our members we felt if their were potential for disloyalty, yes that would be a concern, but I cannot say that that is or is not at this time," Brunswick Co. Republican Women President Kathryn Lawler said.

The situation surrounding Lewis and her relationship with the Republican Party is uneasy to say the least.

"It is absolutely a tense situation for us," Bell said. "We would like to believe that all factions of the party can get along, but that is not always the case."

Regardless the Brunswick County GOP seems to be backing David, but also know there is not much that can be done.

"We as the Republican Women Organization are looking at our resolution, because we did unanamously decide that we were supporting Jon David," Lawler said.

"The only way that we can do anything about this is to have an executive committee or a convention and change the bylaws, and even at that I would be strongly opposed to changing the bylaws because that opens up a very slippery slope," Bell said.

We tried to track down Judge Lewis today in Brunswick County, but she will not be back in court until June 2.

One and done!

Jon David GO BACK TO FLORIDA!

Have no fear R. Mitchell is

Have no fear R. Mitchell is near....He'll get all this straightened out, after all he's in charge of the courthouse....isn't he?????

This is only about right or wrong...

...and has NOTHING to do party affiliation! Republican, democrat..it simply isn't an issue and has ZERO to do with principle here.

If the driving school program is full of graft, then stop it and begin prosecution! If it is a useable, effective and upfront program for the county, then keep it in action. This is a very simple, black and white issue...period!

What?

What the heck are they talking about?

Judges and Politics

The Republican party may not have the backbone to take a stand in this issue...but someone needs to answer the question as to why politics is playing such a large issue in a field that is supposed to be inpartial? Is Jolly planning on keeping his job...or is he retiring? Why else would Lewis get him to do her dirty work? Clearly, she's the one that owns the bus that's being driven over Davis.

You expect Politicians to play this way...it's (evidently) the American Way. But, to see Judges behave in such a manner, is nothing less than a black eye on our judicial system. In a word? Pathetic.

judge lewis and judge jolly

judge lewis and judge jolly are doing what they were elected to do by the voters.... and that is to hold court and hear cases. They work unlike our new DA , he is out cooking and serving food to the ones tht came to his rally... he isnt out fighting for justice. he is out stirring the pot and telling just his verison of things ....... he needs to go back across the bridge and stay where he is wanted... his dirty crooked secrets will come out soon enough!!!!!

This isn't the first time

This isn't the first time that these two judges have collaborated. What about all the issues and/or court cases that we DON'T hear about??? They play dirty, it IS dirty politics and they have been playing this game for a long, long time. Unfortunately, they do not take into account what effect their decisions have on some people and their families. I hope Jolly is retiring. I hope all of this hub-bub leads to something more positive, in the way Brunswick County conducts their business, and begin to build a judicial system that does lean towards impartiality/bias-fee decisions. Judges-SHAME ON YOU!!!

Whether a Judge is a

Whether a Judge is a registered Democrat or Republican or Independant shouldn't matter about causing a "riff" within the party. All Judge seats in NC are non-partisan. When you vote a straight party ticket, you still have to vote for the Judges at the bottom of the ballot!
