Local attorneys arrested on tax charges

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Two local attorneys were arrested Thursday on tax charges. Charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue led to the arrests of Wilmington attorney Dennis Hayes Sullivan Jr., 43, and Brunswick County attorney Sam Edwards, 67.

Sullivan is charged with five counts of Failure to File Tax Returns while Edwards is facing five counts of Willful Failure to File Tax Returns. Arrest warrants allege that Sullivan and Edwards failed to file North Carolina individual income tax returns for tax years 2005 through 2009.

Both appeared before a Wake County magistrate and were released on a written promise to appear.
