Thousands line up for jobs in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AP) -- Caterpillar Inc. says its first job
fair for a new manufacturing plant in Winston-Salem was a huge
success.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported that 2,500 people turned out
for the event at Forsyth Technical Community College on Tuesday.

The job hopefuls dropped off resumes and briefly meet with plant
managers. The applicants were also directed to the company web site
to post profiles.

Caterpillar plans to open the $426 million plant later this year
or early next year. About 400 employees will be hired for the
plant.

Forsyth Tech officials have estimated there will be at least 10
applicants for every Caterpillar job opening.
Caterpillar plans a second job fair in July.
