COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- It's been nearly two years after WWAY's reporting led to an SBI investigation into then-Sen. R.C. Soles. Now the District Attorney in Columbus County says his office is still looking into the case.
"I realize that there is a tremendous amount of public interest concerning the alleged criminal behavior on the part of former Sen. R.C. Soles," DA Jon David said in a statement. "The allegations are serious and the community is justified in asking those of us in Law Enforcement what we are doing about the matter. As District Attorney, I am limited by a code of ethics regarding statements that I can make in the press. Please know that my office is deeply committed to seeking justice in all cases on the basis of sufficient facts and credible evidence. Anyone with information concerning this particular situation is encouraged to contact the appropriate law enforcement authority."
David won the race for DA serving Columbus, Bladen and Brunswick Counties last fall. He replaced Rex Gore.
The SBI opened an investigation into Soles after Stacey Scott told WWAY in 2009 Soles had molested him when Scott was a teenager.
For the second day in a row, a SBI spokesperson did not return our calls for an update on the status of the investigation.
