BELMONT, NC (AP) -- Police in Belmont have arrested 14 people
on drug charges and are looking for 12 additional suspects after a
three-month investigation into drug trafficking.
The Gaston Gazette reported Wednesday that 30 officers from the
police department and the Gaston County Sheriff's Office fanned out
across the region to begin serving the warrants Tuesday.
Those arrested are from Belmont, Iron Station, Gastonia,
Stanley, Kings Mountain and Mount Holly.
Belmont Police Chief Charlie Franklin says the charges involve
selling, delivering and manufacturing controlled substances,
including prescription drugs, marijuana and cocaine.
Franklin says most of the suspects sold drugs to police
informants or undercover officers and were found to be bringing
narcotics to Belmont for sale.
He says the remaining suspects are expected to be arrested in
the next few days.
