CAMP LEJEUNE, NC (AP) -- Camp Lejeune officials say base security has returned almost to normal after nearly two months of being at an enhanced status because of the death of Osama bin Laden.
Elevated security included identity checks for everyone entering the base, random vehicle searches and heightened patrols. Officials tell The Daily News of Jacksonville that conditions returned to normal last week, although some elements of the heightened alert remain.
Camp Lejeune spokeswoman 1st Lt. Nicole Fiedler says not much has changed. She says people should always be prepared for random identification checks and vehicle inspections, along with other measures.
