THIS INFORMATION FROM A NEWS RELEASE SENT TO THE WWAY NEWSCHANNEL 3 NEWSROOM
BURGAW, NC (PENDER COUNTY) - Water customers along NC 210 from Highway 117 to Running Deer Trail and along Highway 117 from the intersection of NC 210 south to Lucas Avenue served by the Rocky Point/Topsail Water System are advised that a broken 12" watermain has been temporarily turned off to conduct an emergency repair of the watermain that serves your area.
Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.
Therefore, the Rocky Point/Topsail Water System and the NC Division of Environmental Health advise that when water is restored, consumers BOIL ALL WATER used for human consumption (including drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice and washing hands) or use bottled water.
Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.
Boiling water concentrates any levels of nitrates that may be present in the water. Infants below the age of six months and pregnant women should use an alternate water supply (e.g., bottled water) whenever possible.
This office is strongly urging the water consumers to conserve water whenever possible. This advisory remains in effect until further written notification is issue
