RALEIGH, NC (NCEL) -– Donald Holliday, an electrician from Wilmington, plans to share the $250,000 prize he won playing Mega Millions drawing with his family. Holiday matched all five white balls but not the Mega Ball in the June 14 drawing.
"I'd been driving around with the ticket in the car for two weeks," Holliday said. "I had two tickets, so I took them into a gas station to get them scanned. The lady scanned the first one and the machine made a funny noise and she told me I had to claim at the lottery. I thought I’d maybe won $700 or something. It's unbelievable."
Donald buys tickets with his mother Elizabeth and his sister Sandra, so the $250,000 prize is split three ways. After taxes were withheld, each family member received $56,666 in prize money. Donald plans to use a portion of his winnings to pay bills and restore his Ford Mustang. Sandra plans to take a vacation and purchase a swimming pool. Elizabeth did not have any plans for her winnings. The winning ticket was purchased at S-E Food Mart on Market Street in Wilmington.
