UPDATE: Police find part of car involved in hit & run

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police now have an idea of the car they're looking for after a hit and run vehicle crash that put a college student in the hospital over the weekend. Wilmington Police say they've found a mirror from the car at the scene.

Daniel Khan, a 21-year-old student at UNC Pembroke, was crossing the 400 block of South College Road around 1 a.m. Saturday when he was hit.

Investigators say the mirror belongs to a light gold 1999 to 2003 Mitsubishi Galant. They say the car should have damage to driver's side, including but not limited to the driver's side mirror. WPD Traffic Investigators have solved similar crimes through tips about vehicles suddenly kept under tarps or other enclosures.

The Wilmington Police Department is requesting that anyone with information related to the investigation or who have seen a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description please notify investigators at the Wilmington Police Department front desk at (910) 343-3600. Those with information may also TEXT-A-TIP to CRIMES (274637) and begin the text message with TIP708. TEXT-A-TIP is a totally anonymous program. You may also provide information at

I haven't seen an update on this young man. How is he doing?

According to the Red Star....

....he's still in critical condition as of Friday. He sustained severe head trauma.

this is news. why exactly was he in the steet at 1 o'clock

The pedestrian hit, or the hit and run driver? Seems they both have every right to be up at 1am, and both have every right to be driving on or crossing a street.

Glad they found something and that they can find out who did this. Hope that person is just worrying when the police will come knocking. Put on your big girl or big boy panties and turn yourself in. You hurt someone, regardless if it was an accident and you need to step up and claim responsibility. If any friend or family member out there knows who it is, turn them in. The next time it could be you!

Hope the young man makes a full recovery.

The cops are just NOW

The cops are just NOW finding this part of the car. WOW poor kid at the pace these cops are going, the person that did this will never be found. Sad situation.

Rocket Scientist

How could anyone in their right mind think the investigators JUST found the mirror? It would make more common sense to THINK that maybe the police were trying to determine the year, make, and model of the car the mirror came from before releasing the information. There's a old saying " It's better to remain quiet and let everyone think you are stupid that to speak and remove all doubt",

Well jump in and go solve

Well jump in and go solve this. All you need is a decent computer. Happens on CSI all the time. Shouldn't take you more than an hour. Good luck.

What leads you to believe

What leads you to believe that the cops are just now finding this part? WOW! Poor Guest_2, at this rate of reading comprehension you're never going to get your GED. Sad situation.
