ROCKWELL, NC (AP) -- A Rowan County man faces gun charges after
police say he brought a gun to school to defend his teen daughter.
WSOC-TV reported that Jimmy Hollar took the rifle to East Rowan
High School after seeing his daughter's boyfriend touch the
17-year-old's bottom as he dropped her off at school.
Hollar says he thought the action was inappropriate, so he drove
to his home in Rockwell, grabbed his .22-caliber rifle and returned
to campus.
Hollar says his only intention was to point out to the boy that
he was being disrespectful. He says he didn't realize it was a
violation to bring a weapon to school until police confiscated the
rifle.
Hollar is charged with a misdemeanor and is scheduled to appear
in court Aug. 9.
