More maps giving more direction on NC Legislature


RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- More Republican-penned maps are being
released to give direction to members of the North Carolina
Legislature about how their district lines will change for the next

The House and Senate redistricting committee chairmen were
expected Monday to unveil proposed boundaries for all 170 districts
in the General Assembly.

The districts are adjusted every 10 years based on changing
population patterns. The 2010 Census figures suggest areas in and
around Charlotte and Raleigh will receive more House and Senate
seats at the expense of rural areas Down East and in the mountains.

The chairmen released maps last month for more than 30 House and
Senate seats they say allow black voters to elect favored

The General Assembly is expected to approve maps by the end of
