Brunswick Co. Animal Shelter ends Saturday hours

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- If you want to adopt a pet from the Brunswick County Animal Shelter, you'll have to do it on a weekday. Starting next weekend the shelter will no longer be open on Saturdays.

The Health Department says it's because the shelter is short a position after an employee

The Shelter hours will now be Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for the office. The kennel hours will be Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For additional information, call the shelter at (910) 754-8204.

David Stanley is the new head of the Enviromental Health Department which oversees the animal shelter. Call/ email the office in Bolivia letting them know there are alternatives (closing during the week etc.) that would be less harmful to the animals.

This is a step backwards for the animals and is ensuring many more will die. David Stanley is the new head of the Enviromental Health Department which oversees the animal shelter. Please take action for the animals that cannot speak for themselves! Below is the number for the enviromental health office in Bolivia. I agree with the above poster that closing on a Monday makes much more sense. Perhaps they truly prefer euthanizing animals over adopting them out? This is yet another reason why this particular shelter needs to be privatized.

Unless they have data that shows otherwise, wouldn't it make more sense to be closed a day during the week (say Monday) and be open Saturday since the majority of people looking to adopt an animal have Saturday off?

Then again, it's government we're talking about so my mistake in thinking they have any sense.

It would make a lot more sense to close on a week day and open one weekend day. Many animals will be killed because of the ignorance and selfishness of the Animal Control posse that would probably otherwise be adopted.

And the only ones that really pay the price are the animals. How sad!
