JACKSONVILLE, NC (AP) -- The trial for a Hubert man accused of
killing his son in a drunken driving car crash last year is
scheduled for this week.
The Daily News of Jacksonville reports that 34-year-old James
Marslender faces second-degree murder, driving while impaired,
speeding and other charges in the September death of 5-year-old
James Marslender II.
Authorities say the boy was killed when his father's pickup
truck left the road and collided with a tree near Camp Lejeune.
Police said the child was improperly restrained and suffered severe
Marslender has been free on $30,000 bond since his first court
appearance. He has been required to live with his mother, not
consume alcohol or drugs, and abide by other restrictions,
including submitting to random breath-alcohol tests.
