Gov't advisers: Cover birth control for free

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A panel of health experts is calling on the government to require that insurance companies cover birth control for free as preventive care for women under President Barack Obama's health overhaul.

The law requires coverage with no copayments for a broad set of preventive services, from blood pressure checks to cancer screenings. Whether to include birth control as prevention for women was so sensitive that the nonpartisan Institute of Medicine was asked to weigh in.

The IOM panel said Tuesday that all FDA-approved forms of birth control should be covered, part of a menu including an annual "well-woman" exam, counseling on sexually transmitted diseases, and comprehensive support for nursing mothers.

The Health and Human Services department will make the final decision. But first, a debate over social mores is likely.

This is one "free" program I will willingly support. But don't put it in the hands of those already proven to not be able to manage their lives. If they just get pills, how will we know if they actually take them? Make it the Depo-Provera shot every 3 months with proof of shot required to keep getting all the other "free" goodies.

One shot, one kid. After that, pull all free goodies and let what happens, happen. Done deal. Trying to engineer around ignorance has defined limits. Funny how a 99% effective birth control device is only 50% effective in truth.

We simply need to get rid of the baby farmers that do nothing but birthing for government entitlements, especially the illegals that are exploding exponentially!

They've already been paying for mens' Viagra prescriptions, so it only makes common sense to pay for the PREVENTION of more babies that may result in more erections!

This means that all other taxpayers end up paying for someone else to have free birth control, and it will increase insurance costs to all.

....but only if you make it mandatory for every woman on TANF or with a child already on Medicaid.

No more direct deposit, no more mailed EBT cards, go back to checks and make them go to DSS to pick up their check. Make the payments quarterly. That will reduce the costs of cutting hard checks and we can give them the required Depo Provera shot when they pick up their check.

As long as WE have to pay for your lack of discipline and brains, WE have a right to stop you from getting pregnant again.

but I agree with you 100% Commonsense, dang the sky will fall now...good post

with you which is very uncommon.

But then I remembered Obamacare includes a provision madating counseling on pain free methods of death for those aged 65 or older every 5 years until the message sinks in.

So effectively, they could cover one from birth to death.

Yes you may make one mistake...sometimes two...but THREE MISTAKES...I don't think so....after the second mistakes you LOSE all RIGHTS...yes because you can NOT afford to provide Health Insurance moreless Daycare for this Child....Yes I work 5-6 days a week and I can't afford no more than two kids....another extra mouth is not in our Budget....They should be STERILIZE after making that third mistake....

Its way cheaper than paying to birth the little spawn, paying for years of welfare and medicaid.

Let's neuter the "studs" that are knockin' them up as well. Oh wait...she don't know who the baby daddy is. Could be the football team, the basketball team, or the band.

Just because the rest of us pay for their birth control does not mean they will actually use it. This is a waste.
