Oppressive heat spreading into North Carolina

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- The heat wave that has scorched the middle
of the country is heading east.

A heat advisory is in effect Wednesday for much of central North
Carolina, where forecasters say temperatures in the upper 90s will
combine with high humidity to make it feel like 105 to 108 degrees.

And the heat index is only going to climb this week. The
National Weather Service predicts by Friday it will feel hotter
than 110 degrees in Raleigh and 107 or above in Greensboro and
Charlotte. The sticky weather also means nighttime lows may hover
around 80, offering little relief.

Forecasters say the weather should slowly cool below dangerous
levels this weekend.
