Spokesman: Bragg contractor's death was accident

FORT BRAGG, NC (AP) -- A spokesman for the special forces school says the shooting death of a government contractor last summer at Fort Bragg was an accident.

The Fayetteville Observer reported Monday that Maj. Dave Butler said in an email that several investigations concluded that the death of 57-year-old Edward Jenkins in June 2010 was an accident. Jenkins was a retired
sergeant and a range maintenance technician for Tennessee-based Echota (Technologies Corp.

Another contractor and a soldier also were killed in the shooting.

Butler says that safety measures were reviewed and improved after the accident.
