McIntyre: Focus should be local, not on Washington in wake of credit downgrade

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- We caught up with Rep. Mike McIntyre today in Brunswick Ccounty and asked him for his thoughts about Standard & Poor's downgrade of America's credit rating.

The congressman says southeastern North Carolina cannot focus on the debate in Washington, but rather should focus our attention here locally to boost our own economy.

"I think the main thing we can do is to focus on every way we can to help our local businesses get that access to capital," McIntyre said. "How we work with our local community banks as well as our regional banks, which are the ones that predominately serve us. We need to make sure that we're in a situation where we're working with our local economic directors and our local folks that work with job placement to help our economy. That's where we've got to start, because there is not a magic solution. We have to start right here on the grassroots level."
