WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A classic car is touring the southeast for a good cause, but this vehicle isn't shiny or sleek. A 1952 Willys CJ-3 Jeep along with a USO jeep crew are giving area residents the chance to give video salutes to the military.

Salute Our Troops has raised more than $1.35 million for the USO, Wounded Warrior Project and state-based military support organizations in its first two months. It will continue to collect donations through labor day.

"I'm surprised how many veterans have come up, a ton of Vietnam veterans come up and check out the Jeep and say, 'I used to ride in one of these things.' Same with Korean War," Jeep crew member Tim McGinn said. "So it's just kind of eye opening to see how many people are serving right now that we run into and how many people have served."
