C.J. Melvin arrested for filing false report

GREENVILLE, NC (WWAY) -- East Carolina University police have determined that an assault that occurred off campus on July 25 was a false report. Former East Bladen High School standout basketball player Courtney "C.J." Melvin told the campus police that she was hit and assaulted by two men. After a long investigation the allegations turned out to not be true. Melvin later admitted the report was false.

Melvin is about to enter her freshman year at East Carolina. She's on the ECU women's basketball team. She was named the top female athlete in the state in 2011 by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. Melvin led East Bladen to the state championship basketball game in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Arrest warrants were issued Tuesday in Pitt County. Melvin was charged with two counts of filing a false report. She was arrested in Bladen County Tuesday evening. She's out on a $1,000 bond.
