Man bitten by shark off NC coast

MOREHEAD CITY (WCTI) -- A man from South Carolina was bitten Thursday afternoon while he was swimming in the Atlantic Ocean.

Donnie White, 54, was fishing about 13 miles from Beaufort Inlet with his family when he decided to cool off with a swim. It wasn't long after he jumped into the water that his family members, still on the boat, say they tried warning him of an approaching bull shark. Family members said White thought they were kidding. That's when the shark bit him on the leg.

The boat rushed back to shore while family members wrapped White's leg in T-shirts and elevated it to stop the bleeding. The boat docked at Morehead City around 3 p.m. Thursday, and White was taken to Carteret General Hospital.

The hospital is not releasing White's current condition.

MY...sharks doing what sharks are designed to do...IN THE OCEAN!? SAY it isn't so!

Mr. White, use less CHUM the next time... go fishing AND swimming at the same time! You may also want to consider using your deck washdown to "cool off" or wait until you get back to the beach to "cool off". Going for a swim 13 miles offshore isn't the smartest thing to do, but we are in the need of more Darwin File candidates in the big-game fishing category!!!

MisterWhite meat

White meat, dark meat- I am pretty sure that sharks will eat anything that bleeds.

Oceans are for looking at- pools are for swimming. Graves are for people who do not know the difference.
