Shrimp Festival celebrates community and crustaceans

SNEADS FERRY (WWAY) -- Some say Sneads Ferry has the best shrimp around, but most everyone agrees the town certainly cooks up the best Shrimp Festival.

The 41st annual Shrimp Festival kicked off Saturday morning with a parade full of fun floats. Locals and visitors gather every year to celebrate all the great things about the tasty crustacean.

"Oh, it's all the people and the home people, you know, and the shrimp and the fellowship,” said Mary Tillett who has lived in Sneads Ferry all her life. ”I love the parade, I really do. I like the Marine Corps best."

Tillett said she's been coming out to the festival as long as she can remember.

Clowns, bands and politicians filled the streets with smiles and candy, which kids of all ages sure enjoyed.

WWAY's own Cacky Catlett made an appearance in the parade as well. She said the people of Sneads Ferry really make the festival great.

I definitely enjoyed the festival, the camels were great. The pile of reject was the hit with shark teeth and other fossils. All the vendors were very friendly and the Great Danes were neat. I loved the shrimp walking around.
