Emergency Management keeping an eye on Irene

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Hurricane Irene is still days away, but preparations have begun.

New Hanover County officials have been monitoring the hurricane, trying to get plans in place. It is still too early to tell who may have to be evacuated if anyone. Timing the arrival and studying the track will be key in the upcoming days.

"At this point with it being four days out, it is difficult to make firm decisions because of the uncertainty of the track," New Hanover County Emergency Management Director Warren Lee said. "You know a jog to the left or right in the track makes a huge difference to us as far as wether we are on the right front quadrant or the left side of the storm"

The emergency management team will continue to meet to determine what steps may be necessary to protect residents.

wilmington bridges

what time are they closing the wilmington bridges?

you want to protect residents

Quit overhyping a storm that isnt even coming here. This is why people become complacent because you keep screaming the sky is falling everytime a storm is within 200mi people are going to quit listening and tune you out. If you want people to take a threat seriously you dont continue to overhype a storm that at this point at worse might bring severe thunderstorm level winds MAYBE and a little rain. While shes a big storm shes going to miss us by well over 100+miles which means the West(weaker)side will be what affects us. So thats how you can protect people quit overhyping crap thats a non-starter that way when there is a threat people take you seriously. You cry wolf so often people quit listening

You are one of those people who LAUGH at others who are concerned and over-prepared. You're the real problem. You're probably running around to neighbors and friends cackling about how it's no big deal... go on and act like a daft jerk, I just hope you don't take anyone down with your rants and lack of intelligence.
