WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A youth soccer tournament scheduled for this weekend predicted to bring more than $1 million dollars in tax money to the Wilmington area may be canceled.
The Beach Soccer Classic tournament is supposed to run Friday night through Sunday, but thanks to Hurricane Irene, that may not happen. Sixty-seven teams from around North and South Carolina are scheduled to participate.
Tournament organizers say 2,000 to 3,000 visitors could cancel their trips if the tournament is called off. They say they will make a decision by tomorrow morning.
