Pet Friendly

Who do we contact if we want to list our organization location as a pet shelter in Hampstead NC? We are willing to take pets, with crates and travel cages and food if possible!! We have many pet owners and pet lovers that want to get involved in assisting the Community!! PLease email any info about this to thewellcdc@gmail.com . THanks so much! and be safe all!!!

shelter

are you a shelter in hampstead for pets and their owners or just pets, also where are you located thank you

I can't believe Columbus

I can't believe Columbus County doesn't have any shelters open!! Where is the people suppose to go?

Shelters

The news article said the following shelters will be open in Columbus county at 6:00pm today:

East Columbus High School, 32 Gator Lane, Lake Waccamaw
Edgewood Elementary School, 317 East Calhoun Street, Whiteville
Guideway Elementary School, 11570 Swamp Fox Highway East, Tabor City

That is still way ahead of the hurricane, but drive safely in case your area has extensive flooding.

Only 2?!?

There are only two pet friendly shelters out of all of those?!? If Katrina taught us anything, it is that people will not abandon their pets and instead put themselves in jeopardy as they stay in unsafe conditions. Come on NC, can't you do better than that?

Yes only TWO!!!

Would you have felt better if there were ten? I mean really what is the magic number for you? Wow you can't please some people. If someone stays in unsafe conditions due to a pet, then so be it. It is not up to the County to take care of you and your pets. Grow up and tend to it yourself.

Animals

This is very true. I live in a mobile home and I will not leave if my dogs can't come with me. No one wants this many even if they are in kennels.

Hurricane Pet Shelters

I only see 2 places for animals....one a pet friendly human shelter, the other at an animal control.....where are the others supposed to go??

It is based in the threat

It is based in the threat level of the storm and the expected number of people evacuating their homes. If the threat level increases and the two pet friendly locations become full, more will open to meet the need.
