Holden Beach back open after Irene

THIS INFORMATION FROM A NEWS RELEASE SENT TO THE WWAY NEWSCHANNEL 3 NEWSROOM

Holden Beach has very little damage caused by Irene. The beach strand suffered, but the dune system overall is in good shape. Some roof shingles and some vinyl siding has been blown off a few homes. Otherwise, there is no serious damage.

The island has been made available for the return of the public today, August 27, 2011 at 9:00 a.m.

Thanks to the owners, volunteers, visitors, Town staff and elected officials the emergency plan worked well. The efforts of supporting local, state and national emergency systems helped also.
