WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Hurricane Irene took a toll on beach businesses this past weekend, but many are hoping Labor Day weekend will make up for the loss.
With power outages and curfews at many beaches over the weekend, businesses were forced to close their doors losing big bucks in the process. But with one of the biggest weekends for beach towns is only days away. Owners hope the holiday crowds will recover what was lost.
"We shut down half of Friday, all of Saturday, but we think with Labor Day weekend around the corner, we're going to be nice and busy," said Brian Rhue, manager of the Oceanic. "We've got live entertainment Thursday, Saturday, Sunday. We're definitely expecting a big turnout. We're not expecting any bad weather."
Clean-up continues. One way or the other, area beaches will be ready for Labor Day weekend.
