HUBERT, NC (AP) -- A Camp Lejeune Marine sergeant is wondering what could have happened after finding a six-foot-long military training missile that fell from a helicopter in his back yard.
The Daily News of Jacksonville reported Wednesday that Sgt. Parker Radcliffe and his wife heard the missile hit the ground last week and found it while preparing the yard before Hurricane Irene.
The combat engineer said he realized the device was not armed, but he says the metal tube that hit 50 feet from his house could have ended up in his living room.
Second Marine Aircraft Wing spokesman Maj. William Klumpp says the weapon fell off an AH-1 Cobra helicopter stationed at the New River Marine Corps Air Station.
Klumpp says such mistakes are extremely rare.
