Search crews find diver's body near Southport


SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) -- Search crews have found the body of a diver missing since Saturday off Southport. The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office Air Unit spotted the body of Danny Stump this morning.

Stump, 59, was reported missing Saturday after he was last seen in the Intracoastal Waterway near Southport.

Crews located Stump's body around 7:08 a.m.. He was about a half mile from where he was last seen on the Southport side of the waterway fully dressed in his dive gear.

The Medical Examiner was called to the scene and Stump's body was transported to Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport.

Crews from Sunny Point, Southport Fire Department, US Coast Guard, New Hanover County Sheriff's Office Dive Team, NC Marine Patrol, NC Wildlife and Brunswick Search & Rescue helped in the search that continued Sunday.
