WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- UNC Wilmington students remembered 9/11 in their own unique way today.
Students honored local first responders and those who served on September 11. The main attraction was the human formation of the twin towers surrounded by a pentagon. Thousands of students participated, and each held a name of one of the victims of 9/11.
"This is for our students to come together as a community to reflect and to remember and then to show our surrounding area that we remember the events, and we respect the fallen, and we respect the people that serve us everyday," 9/11: We Remember co-chair Alexis Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said the event is all about respect and remembrance.
Most of the students who participated were young on September 11, 2001, but say they remember the events vividly and honor those who stepped up to help that day.
