BURGAW, NC (THE PENDER POST) -- Pender County Manager Rick Benton has announced he will retire at the end of the year. Benton came to Pender County in August, 2008.

In a press release issued early Tuesday morning, Benton said “a great deal of thought and prayer over the past few months has led me to this decision, and it still has been a difficult one to make. The commissioners, along with the county’s staff, have put into place many positive programs and initiatives in recent years. Making this announcement now will assure a smooth transition in county management that will facilitate a continuance of the good works that are underway. I am committed to assuring a seamless transition of management and board initiatives, and will work with the Commissioners in any way necessary to assure this, even beyond the end of the year if required.”

Benton, who has spent more than 30 years working in county and city government, told The Pender Post his decision to retire was a personal one, and he had not been asked to leave.
