NEW BERN, NC (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say they will show
three Raleigh men were part of a plot to kill soldiers at Fort
Bragg and Marines in Virginia.
The Sun Journal reported that opening
statements were made Tuesday in U.S. District Court in New Bern.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John S. Bowler says evidence will show
the men were part of a group who planned to kill servicemen at Fort
Bragg and the Marine Base at Quantico, Va.
Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, Ziyad Yaghi and Hysen Sherifi face
multiple felony charges.
Attorneys for the men made separate opening statements in which
they said their clients are innocent.
Bowler says accused ringleader Daniel Patrick Boyd will testify
against the men. Boyd pleaded guilty in February.
