LELAND, NC (WWAY) -- After an ongoing WWAY NewsChannel 3 Investigation into allegations of misconduct and corruption within the Leland Police Department, the Leland Town Council has called a special meeting tonight at 7 p.m. to discuss what Mayor Pro Tem Brenda Bozeman calls "personnel actions." Leland residents are encouraged to be at the meeting.
Councilwoman Martha Currie originally asked Leland Mayor Walter Futch to call the meeting, but he did not. Bozeman then went behind Currie and called the meeting with Councilwoman Pat Batleman's support.
This will be the first public meeting where any town council member has responded to our ongoing stories. Most refuse to return our calls for comment.
Here's is a complete list of the stories we've reported on so far:

sounds like some of this
sounds like some of this town council and the police dept are so crooked, when they die, they will have to be screwed in the ground!!
Nothing
No legal action can take place because to many people are involved. From the D.A. To "some" Officer's right down to "some" of the Leland Town Council. Martha Currie EXCLUDED!
your right
Also the SBI will not get invovled until a actual crime has happened....and so far eveything is a personel issue and not criminal which really isn't public info unitl its finished and then the town will not have to share alot about what does happen. So until people start coming out and saying whats going nothing is going to happen and you can't use the Officer Lewis stuff b/c its over and done with and as far as the SBI is concerned it was only a training accident that wasn't reported. But as far as I am concerned everyone needs to interviewed about everything going on...from the lowest person all the way up.
