Topsail MS student wins award at national science fair

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A few weeks ago, we told you about a local science standout headed to the national science fair. Now, he's back home with an award.

Chad Campbell, a Topsail Middle School 7th grader, took home the "Rising Star Award" at the Broadcom MASTERS Science Fair in Washington, DC for his project "The Debate on Your Plate." It looked at the levels of antibiotics in the food we eat. You can see more about Chad's project in our story here: Local science standout heads to nationals (9/28/11)

While in Washington, Chad met with Rep. Mike McIntyre and Sen. Kay Hagan and talked to them about his project and the issues posed by antibiotics being found in our food supply.

The competition featured 30 young scientists from across the country that were chosen out of a pool of over 1500 applicants. After performing so well, Chad has now been invited to an international science fair in Pittsburgh in May.

Middle school student wins science award

Using the abbreviation, MS, was misleading. I thought you were referring to the disease until it occurred to me that you meant middle school. I have a daughter with MS so probably that influenced my misunderstanding.
