Weather says fall, azaleas say spring

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- It definitely feels like fall, but this morning a sign of spring arrived in Wilmington.

Encore Azalea dropped off hundreds of azalea plants at Airlie Gardens this morning. The plants will go in the home gardens that will be part of the Cape Fear Garden Club's annual Azalea Garden Tour during the Azalea Festival in April.

Karen smith is the chairwoman for next year's garden tour. She says she's excited and thankful for the donation.

"These generous people have given us 150 azaleas, assorted azaleas, for our garden owners," Smith said. "We have 13 beautiful gardens this coming spring."

Each of the 13 garden owners gets 10 azaleas to plant.

The Azalea Garden Tour is April 13 through 15. Proceeds go to help beautification projects around Wilmington.
