DUBLIN, NC (WWAY) -- Pat Byrd is out as West Bladen High School head football coach. The Knights ended their season Friday with a 1-9 record. The lone win came against winless South Robeson early in the season.

Over the course of his two seasons at West Bladen Byrd sported a record of 4-16. Byrd served as head coach at West Columbus prior to his tenure at West Bladen.

"There was a mutual agreement between me and the principal," Byrd said in a text message to WWAY. "Neither one of us was happy with the direction of the program. The principal wanted a change."

Toni Warrick has been the principal at West Bladen for three months.

Byrd added that he looks forward to spending more time with his wife and three daughters. He's also excited about being an assistant football coach again.

it better he be assistant coach. i just hope the next head coach will be better

I hate to hear this. Coach Byrd did a great job at West Bladen. New principal think she can solve the football problem?

ummm how can you say he did a great job 1-9 record speaks for it self

How long until the former West principal scoops him up to join his team at New Hanover? Byrd says he wants to be an assistant again, so I bet those two get reunited. As for Toni Warrick, best of luck to her in finding someone to replace a fine mentor for young men. Whoever gets Pat Byrd will be picking up a quality human being, a God fearing man, and a great football mind. Good luck, Coach. You will be on the sidelines again, soon.

hahahahaha whatever you say

Their record explains why West Brunswick beat them.
