Teen charged with student's dragging death

ELIZABETH CITY, NC (AP) -- A 16-year-old Elizabeth City student has been charged with murder after authorities say he dragged another teen to death.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported Tuesday that the teen has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of James Edward Holley Jr.

Sheriff Randy Cartwright says deputies received a call just before 5 p.m. Sunday about a traffic accident southwest of Elizabeth City.

Deputies say a teen assaulted Holley, pushed him out of the car and then got behind the wheel. Cartwright says the teen then drove forward with Holley hanging by a seat belt on the outside of the car before the car ran into a ditch.

Holley died at the scene.
