Gastonia Thanksgiving tradition expects thousands

GASTONIA, NC (AP) -- Warm weather and clear skies may help a Gastonia tradition attract a record number for Thanksgiving.

The Gaston Gazette reports that the Third Annual Community Giveaway for Thanksgiving will provide a
free Thanksgiving dinner to all who attend, as well as free clothes, shoes, haircuts and other essentials for those in need. There's also music, dancing and other entertainment.

Pastor Danny Busquette of Latin Harvest Church in Mount Holly said the event was launched in 2009 primarily to benefit the Latin community. But he says the event is for the entire community.

More than 4,000 people attended last year in less than ideal weather, but with highs Thursday expected to be in the 60s with sunny skies, Busquette predicts this year's crowd could reach 10,000.
