NC mountains residents under flood threat

ASHEVILLE, NC (AP) - Forecasters are warning residents in the North Carolina mountains that up to six inches of rain could fall on the area and lead to flooding.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch that extends into Tuesday for Madison, Buncombe and Henderson counties and all western North Carolina counties west of those three.

There is a 60 percent chance of rain on Tuesday.

A flood warning has been issued for the French Broad River at Blantyre near the Henderson-Transylvania county line from through Tuesday night. Minor flooding is expected, with water in nearby agricultural fields and over some roadways. Flood stage at that site is 16 feet, and the river is expected to crest at about 18 feet early Tuesday.
