WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- In the wake of drug problems and violence in low-income neighborhoods, area churches have decided it's time to put their ‘Boots on the Ground’ and change hearts and minds for the better.

‘Boots on the Ground’ hit the pavement nine months ago and held an awareness event Saturday. It’s an effort led by local churches in conjunction with the Wilmington Police Department.

The group says it wants to serve as prevention and not clean-up. ‘Boots on the Ground’ helps with jobs, housing and transitioning from prison back to the real world.

"We're looking for African American churches to come join us and help us go into our communities, where the bulk of the problem is,” Founder Rev. Dr. James Jamison of Hope Baptist Church for All Nations said. “I know that's not popular, but the fact of the matter is, the bulk of the problem is happening in and around our communities. We need to go in and handle our business."

The next ‘Boots on the Ground’ meeting is set for next month at the Wilmington Police Department.

What? No anti-Christian sentiments yet? Where are you guys? I can usually count on your bigoted poo-poo way before now!

most are not ant-Christian

most are tired of the arrogant your way or no-way attitudes

most are tired of the sinners Monday -Friday and saints on Sunday -really?

most are tired of hearing your message to see you living a self imposed life of entitlement which downs others for being different -get over your selves

preach -help others- not hate....!

you want acceptance but you do not give it

I applaud the the acts of the preacher IF he is sincere !
So who is the hater?

Happy Holidays

Get A Clue

"most are not ant-Christian"

Are you blind, as well as deaf and dumb? Most of the comments about any religious matters on this forum are met with anti-Christian statements, such as yours.

"most are tired of the arrogant your way or no-way attitudes"

Oh, sorry, I thought that was mostly non-Christians who had that attitude.

"most are tired of the sinners Monday -Friday and saints on Sunday -really?"

Whoever said Christians are perfect? Certainly not the Bible, who points out on a continuous basis that they are not. But they are loved by God anyway, as all sinners are.

"most are tired of hearing your message to see you living a self imposed life of entitlement which downs others for being different -get over your selves"

Non-Christians are the biggest bigots of all. Talk about religious intolerance...

"preach -help others- not hate....!"

This is done on a daily basis. Did you just prescribe to this same idea in this post?

"you want acceptance but you do not give it"

That's a very generalized statement. Are you lumping us all together like cattle?

"So who is the hater?"

I don't hate you....I just think you're silly...

Merry CHRISTmas!

A start

and a lot more productive then marching each year over some incident that took place back in the 1890s.

Now get the parents, of all these underage individuals who roam the streets at all hours of the night, to accept accountability and responsibility for their children. No more excuses about "doing the best you can".

If you can not control them, then go to court and have them emancipated. That will not be popular as it reduces the family size when calculating the basis for entitlement dollars. But, control them, or cut the cord and let them face society's judgement.

And while you're at it, teach them the facts of life so they know where babies come from and they face the harsh realities of teenage parenthood.

The cure has to start somewhere. It has to start by holding parents accountable.

Tom, is that "some incident"

Tom, is that "some incident" which took place in the 1890s perhaps the Insurrection of 1898??? Do you mean that little event where some folks didn't see eye to eye with the notion that Black folks did constitute a government here in these parts?

Got Me?

I wasn't around that far back. I merely note that every year there is some big march to commemorate whatever transpired.

Heaven forbid they would march in some of the public housing communities and cause parents to be held accountable.

Thank-you

Pastor Jamison, WPD, and those who work so hard!

Your dedicated service to our community has and will continue to make a big difference.

TRUTH is FINALLY ADMITTED!

In the wake of drug problems and violence in low-income neighborhoods, area churches have decided it's time to put their ‘Boots on the Ground’ and change hearts and minds for the better.

Realizing it's just NOT a Black, NOR White Problem, in this ever spiraling downward Econmoney, People AND Churches are recognizing the "problems", which is "Low-Income", No Job Oppertunties, or a person "Convicted" by some out-datd or asinine Law, or City/County Ordnance, that, in effect, targets "Low Income" people, which instead of "Conviction(s), should be Re-Designed instead of Targeting "Low-Income" people(s), and instead of "Fining & Jailing them, should Instill Values,Morals, Focusing on becomeing a Productive Citizen of Socitey...

Dear Rev J. Jamison..
You turned a card, (We know which one), though; TRUTH be told, YOU Sir, are correct.(Though AGAIN, I stress that this isn't just black/White issue, (though the "stat"(s) do Not Lie!),You Sir, Speak Much like Bill Cosby has opined over the years about "His" Black Community.....

Yes, Reverend, it's going to be "UN-Popular", almost to the point of putting your Life and those "serving" you and Enforceing the Ten Commandments,In Possibly Grave Danger. While trying to go the Intervention Route" (Hopefully with MANY young people), You Sir have a very LONG & TOUGH Row to Hoe..
I PRAY for "Safe Passage" for you, With the Lord, Protecting ou & yours from ALL Elements.
You should be Commended for it, and these very comments you've made.
I wish, HOPE & PRAY, that you CAN "INTERVINE", in some wanna be young Hoodies, or "Future" Gang Recruits into Making thr "Eight Choice", One with God's Plan(s) involved, making a BIG Difference in Our YOUTH, & Former Inmates....

I wish You and Your Church Member(s) great Success, and Pra that ALL Local chuches,Of Wilmington, re-guardless of Denomination, Join Forces, in *PREVENTING* crime(s), Combining of "Community Watches", while Getting HELP to those, that are desperate enough to commit Crimes Against the General Public.. Combining enough Churches, what-ever the Denomation, Black & White, to take this to another level...
Such as, it takes a *Community* to RAISE and CORRECT a Person, (young & Old), from commiting Crimes, (Or Joining a GANG), to begin with...
In closing, Rev. Dr. James Jamison , I PRAY and Hope you are very Successfull in this Project, Thusly, , I CHALLENGE,, every church here in Wilminton/Leland & Pender Co.,,To Contact you for Guidance, support,In Implementing the "Getting BOOTS ON The GROUND". Project!
