Respiratory infection keeps Coble in hospital

GREENSBORO, NC (AP) -- Doctors say U.S. Rep. Howard Coble needs to stay in a Washington hospital for several more days as he recovers from an upper respiratory infection.

Coble hoped to be released on Sunday, but physicians at George Washington University Hospital said the 80-year-old North Carolina Republican was too weak to be discharged. Coble entered the hospital on Tuesday on the advice of his attending doctor.

A statement from the congressman says doctors say they will continue to try to increase his sodium levels and build his strength.

Coble was first elected in 1984 to represent the district around the eastern and southern part of the Triad.
